Microsoft’s New Greener IT Page Debuts

  • Comments 0

Today we released a new Greener IT page on the website. The term Greener IT recognizes that there are always opportunities to improve IT resource efficiency—it’s a journey rather than a destination. On this page we have separated information about IT resource efficiency into five categories: Operating System, Applications, Management, IT Hardware, and Building, as well as having a Featured Content section. We created these categories and have pulled content from across Microsoft separated by content type (videos, websites, andimage documents) to make it easier to navigate to the information that interests you.

Here is a brief summary of each category and some examples of the type of information you will find in them.

  • Operation System: Information for both desktop and server operating systems on power management, from how to analyze performance to how to implement power management in your environment.
  • Applications: The importance of developing energy-smart applications is paramount. This section includes resources to explain the importance and provide some guidance on how this can be achieved.
  • Management: Strategies and opportunities to help reduce your energy use and decrease the amount you spend on energy.
  • IT Hardware: Information on making the most of the hardware you have from your PC to your data centers.
  • Building: Labs and other buildings have the potential to waste a lot of energy and other resources. Learn about decreasing the carbon footprint of buildings.

This is just a taste of the information that is available on the new Greener IT page. I invite you to take a few minutes to explore it yourself, and don’t forget to bookmark it so you can see new materials once they become available. Let us know what you think!
