Introduction (excerpt)

This training kit is designed for server and domain administrators who have two to three years of experience managing Windows servers and infrastructure in an environment that typically supports 250 to 5,000 (or even more) users in three or more physical locations and has three or more domain controllers. You will likely be responsible for supporting network services and resources such as messaging, database servers, fi le and print servers, a proxy server, a firewall, the Internet, an intranet, remote access, and clients. You also will be responsible for implementing connectivity requirements, such as connecting branch offices and individual users in remote locations to the corporate network and connecting corporate networks to the Internet.

The material covered in this training kit and on Exam 70-646 relates to the technologies in a Windows Server 2008 or Windows Server 2008 R2 network that support distributed access to web content, media, operating systems, and applications. The topics in this training
kit cover what you need to know for the exam as described on the Skills Measured tab for the exam, which is available at http://www.microsoft.com/learning/en/us/exam.aspx?ID=70-646&locale=en-us#fbid=h7RAXw9U2IL.

By using this training kit, you will learn how to do the following:

■ Plan and implement the deployment of servers running Windows Server 2008 and Windows Server 2008 R2
■ Plan and implement the management of servers running Windows Server 2008 and Windows Server 2008 R2
■ Monitor, maintain, and optimize servers
■ Plan application and data provisioning
■ Plan and implement high-availability strategies and ensure business continuity

Refer to the objective mapping page in the front of this book to see where each exam
objective is covered in the book.

  • Does this include a DVD of the OS and if so how long is it good for?

  • No - you'll need to download the eval version off Microsoft's site. I'm pretty sure we don't include the OS evals in any of the books anymore.

  • cheers

  • When will this book become available? Why is so hard to find release dates for microsoft books?

  • thedude, our "RTM'd today" posts tell you when the book is final and sent to the printer. A few weeks after that the book begins shipping from our distributor to customers who have ordered the book. Our "New book" posts (use the "New books" tag on this blog to see those posts) tell you when a book has reached that point. We're not there yet for this Training Kit because it went to the printer only 11 days ago.

  • why does the link on this page go to the 647 exam information?

    www.microsoft.com/.../exam.aspx

  • Chris MCT, we fixed that link. Thank you!
