“New opportunities lead to great development experiences on the Microsoft platform”
On 5th October, we're holding a very special UK Tech Days event at the ICC in London. Why's it so special? Well, Microsoft 's CEO Steve Ballmer will be there to deliver a keynote, and our UK Evangelist team will spend the rest of day talking about the future of Microsoft technology... and we're giving you a chance to come along!
Our special UK TechDays event is specifically designed to equip you with the knowledge and understanding of emerging technologies so that you can forge ahead of the rest to bring your ideas to fruition! Talks on the day will cover Windows Azure, Windows 7 and the soon-to-be-released Windows Phone 7 and IE9, helping to show you how multiple screens and a cloud will change the way you think about development.
The event itself is sold out - but, since we know that students are the future, we've managed to secure a couple of free tickets just for you! Not only will you get to come along to the day, but we'll pay your travel expenses to do so. Sound good? There's a catch - in exchange for coming along, we want you to blog, Facebook and tweet your way through the day, helping to spread the word about the awesome technology that you'll be hearing about.
So here's how to be in for a chance to come along! Send an email to ukmsp@microsoft.com with your name, what/where you study, and a sentence stating why you want to come along to the day. We're looking for people who are keen to write about the day on their blogs, tweet about the things they see & hear, and use other social media channels to spread the Tech Day love!
We have a very limited number of tickets, and we'll look to pick from the best sentences on Monday of next week (27th September). Good luck!

Today is your first chance to compete in the 2010-11 Imagine Cup.
We want to find the UK’s brightest IT experts and send them to New York to battle it out with students from all over the world. We’re running eight 1 hour on-line challenges over the next few months, and you only have to score 50% to advance to the next round.
Sound easy? Then give the practice quiz a go first! You can compete in as many or as few quizzes as you like – either until you get through, or again and again just for the fun of it. Seriously. Fun. IT. It happens.
Click here to register for the IT Challenge.
If you have any questions, don't know where to go, or just want to brag about how highly you scored, you can connect with us in the UK academic team on ukacinfo@microsoft.com, at www.facebook.con/microsoftukstudents or @msukstudents on Twitter.
And no, we’re not telling you the answers!
Good luck!
It's no secret that, here at the Microsoft UK Academic Team, we love students. One of the ways we share that love is through the Microsoft Student Partner programme. Put simply, it's a way for students to engage with us, hear about the latest & greatest technology we're creating, and spread that knowledge around. I could type loads more about it - but I think this video sums it up nicely...
Like the man says - email ukmsp@microsoft.com if you want to be a part of it!
In case you missed it, we're pretty excited this week about the release of Internet Explorer 9 Beta. It represents a huge leap forward - and while it's only in beta at the moment, it's helping to bring you a better, more beautiful web by embracing open standards and making use of new technologies like HTML 5.
So what's with the green guy? Well, fans of The Gorillaz should recognise him as Murdoch - bassist and, err, slightly odd bloke - who has helped us out a little by explaining what makes the beta of IE9 so great. As part of our IE9 celebration we've helped a whole host of people launch new, beautiful, interactive websites that really make use of the new browser's awesome power. The Gorillaz new website is one of them. With the help of Murdoch and his gang of geeks, his website has become a hugely interactive, very rich, and slightly more disturbing place. And we'd love you to go and check it out!
