Microsoft Research has some really clever people who do some really cool stuff and once a year they converge for TechFest. An event that brings Microsoft researchers from around the world to Microsoft HQ to share their latest work with our product teams. Its a great forum for product teams and researchers to discuss the novel work occurring in the labs, and the potential of technology transfer into Microsoft products.
The last event happened last week in Redmond and you can check out a lot of the stuff here. The 2 really interesting areas for me are the specific projects they are working on and some of the videos describing the projects in detail.
Its always hard to pick a favourite but for me this year it has to be the 3D Scanning with a Regular Camera. Why? I guess cos its something we can all associate with and its using technology we all have (apart from our software of course) which won’t be available as a project download yet….
