As promised here are the summer camps BUT only in London in the short term. Sorry about that – it's purely a logistical decision….….These are open to ANYONE – students, professional developer, part timers etc but wouldn’t it be great to fill them with students!
With Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8 around the corner, its a great time to start building apps with the skills you already have and get your app in the Windows Store/Marketplace as soon as possible. Imagine how good that will look on your cv . Obviously we are here to help you get your app ready with a bunch of support ranging from online training to Camps and App Excellence Labs.
The Camps
Regardless of your exposure to date of Microsoft’s upcoming operating system releases, our UK Camps have been designed to help you smoothly migrate your application or write a new one!
The Windows Phone Camps will be slightly different than the on-campus events we ran last year with a choice of sessions and workshops.
The Windows 8 Camps are also quite different. If you’re new to Windows 8 then you can sit through overview sessions to better understand the platform and opportunity that Windows 8 presents from a technology, user and business perspective. If you’re already familiar with the Windows 8 experience then you have 2 options, you can either spend the day working through our HTML or .NET labs (or both!) which walk you through the Windows 8 application development process, taking you from the familiarisation of the tools to the deployment of your app. Or, you can bring your current application and work on migrating it straight away. Not only will there be experts on hand to answer your questions on usability and implementation but we will have no-nonsense cheat sheets explaining how to implement behaviours and controls that are common across Windows 8 and Metro style applications.
We don’t expect you to have finished your porting in one day (although that’s not impossible). You will at least understand the Windows 8 operating system, what makes a great Metro style application and the development paths that are available to you. If you choose to take advantage of one of our 1:1 User Experience (UX), then you will also leave with a set of wireframes that you can use to base your Metro style application on.
If you wish to, you can return to one of our future camps to carry on with your application build and take further advantage of our Windows 8 experts who will be present all day to personally answer your questions. there a re some pre-requisites – see the Windows Phone Camp page for theirs and the only pre-requisites for attending the is camp are:
1) You have the Windows 8 Release Preview installed and running on your machine - http://windows.microsoft.com/en-GB/windows-8/download?ocid=W_MSC_W8R_DevCenter_MetroDL_EN-US
2) You have Visual Studio 2012 Express RC installed - http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-gb/windows/apps/br229516
The first set of camps will be held in London but after that we’ll be heading off round the country (narrowly avoiding the Olympics). See you there!
