Welcome to 2008!

I wanted to give you an update on the event plans for the coming year - you may have already heard that we won't be hosting an MEDC event this year (sad, but true). But will be involved in other events throughout the year.

Here's the e-mail that recently went out to past-MEDC attendees that outlines the event plans for the coming year.

In 2008, two major highlights for the Windows Embedded team include Microsoft's Tech•Ed Conference and the Embedded Systems Conference West. At both events, you'll find a Windows Embedded track with the same high quality technical content that you've come to expect from MEDC. Please see below for further details.

For a broad embedded industry event with a strong Windows Embedded presence, don't miss ESC West:

Embedded Systems Conference (ESC) West
April 14-18, 2008
Celebrating its 20th anniversary, the 2008 ESC West conference will take place at the McEnery Convention Center in San Jose, California. ESC in Silicon Valley will attract top industry thought leaders, engineers and engineering managers, media and technology analysts, executives, financial analysts, venture capitalists, and many of the nation's largest hardware and software companies.

If you're looking for a large event with hardcore Microsoft content, including content around Windows Mobile, you'll want to register for Tech•Ed 2008:

TechEd 2008 Developer Conference
June 3-6, 2008
Microsoft Tech•Ed Developers is Microsoft's premier global conference, offering technical education, product evaluation, and community resources for building state-of-the-art enterprise software solutions. Content will continue to focus on current and soon-to-be-released Microsoft products and technologies, with expanded coverage of technologies available for Community Technology Preview (CTP) and released to market prior to the next Tech•Ed.

TechEd IT Professionals Conference
June 10-13, 2008
Microsoft Tech•Ed IT Professionals is designed to provide global IT professionals with technical education, product evaluation, and community resources to plan, architect, deploy, manage, and secure a connected enterprise. The conference will focus on current and soon-to-be-released products and technologies, plus even deeper coverage of Community Technology Preview (CTP) products and technologies released to market before the next Tech•Ed event.

More information will be made available about the sessions/content being delivered at each of these events as we get closer to the events - watch this space for more information.

One thing that has bugged me for a while now is how content flows out to developers outside the US, assuming that MEDC is the main embedded event for 2007, and that we had over 50 embedded sessions covering NETMF, WinCE, XPE, and WEPOS, most of the international events would only have a subset of the content from the US event, for example, MEDC Australia had 5 embedded sessions. Does it make sense for us to have "highlight content" at the US/International events, and put the deep/core content online for all developers to see ?
