Okay, subsequent to my rant about hotel food (and burgers in particular) I’ve stayed at two hotels for the MSDN Roadshow and both have proven me to be utterly and completely wrong in my belief that “There's something wrong with hotel food in this country”. I stayed at the Macdonald Holyrood Hotel in Edinburgh and then at the Malmaison hotel in Manchester. Both served up an excellent burger. The Macdonald Holyrood also served up the best chips I’ve tasted since I was a kid and the Malmaison did a simply delicious mozzarella and tomato salad. Perhaps it’s something to do with these hotels not being part of a large international chain? I can’t say for sure. But I can recommend their burgers…

I’m going to stop this now as I’ve no aspirations to become Giles Coren (don’t get me started) but I thought it only fair to share my more positive experience in these two hotels…
