Windows Phone 7 Iconography

I don’t know about you but I find creating the various application and marketplace icons a bit of a chore. Perhaps because I’m not very gifted artistically or perhaps it’s just because there are quite a few things to remember.

I've created a set of templates to make life just a little easier and thought others might find them useful.

iconography

All the templates are Paint.NET files with separate layers for background / foreground and a “guidance” layer with some pointers. You can add more layers as required of course.

Hopefully they’ll come in handy – download the zip file below.

  • Thanks Mike. This will come in very handy!

  • Why not just create the icon in 200x200, save it, shrink it to 173x173 save it, shrink it to 99x99 save it, etc?  Maybe I'm missing something obvious here, though I use Photoshop instead of Paint.Net since it handles the images better in my opinion.

  • Well it depends on whether or not you want them all to be identical. And some of them can use transparency while others cannot. And with the Background.png file you need to be careful because of the space occupied by the title. And of course one of them is a jpg rather than png. And the panorama doesn't lend itself to scaling.

It's a lot to remember. This is as much an aide-memoir as anything else.

  • Thanks for doing this Mike.  Perfect timing too, will soon be doing all the image & icon work for my first app!

  • Excellent. Let me knw how you get on! Best regards, Mike
