The future of cell phones, mmm, mmm, good!

A very good compilation of the cell phones of tomorrow...it's amazing to see an industry evolve so fast! I still remember the mono-color, fluorescent green Nokia cell phone with a huge antenna - we've sure come a long way!

A colleague of mine just sent me this funny pic! :))

It'll make a lot of sense if you have seen the movie 300

And, if you haven't seen the movie yet - You are missing a lot! I don't think there's any other movie with so many ab's on display! Yuck!

Halo 3 to be released on September 25

When Halo 2 released, nearly 35% of MSFT workforce  (on campus) were 'OOF' (Out Of Office) or 'Working from Home'. I wonder what'll happen this Sep 25th :)

    The party's on!

I am very pleased to announce that Microsoft will be making its developer and designer tools available at no charge to college students in 10 countries around the world – in the first phase of the new Microsoft DreamSpark™ program. DreamSpark will be live as of Feb 19 in United States, the United Kingdom, China, Germany, France, Finland, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and Belgium. Additional country rollouts are planned throughout the year with full availability expected within 12 months. Best & Worst cities to live in...

Living in the Pacific Northwest is a blessing - as long as it's summer! The other days when it's a wee bit gloomy, we have Vancouver, BC which is a saving grace for Seattle, WA. I've been living in Seattle for almost 6 years now, Long enough to know that a beautiful day after two shitty days is called Monday.

Anyway, I stumbled upon the Economist's top 10 Best & Worst cities to live in article and interestingly it had Vancouver, BC as the #1 city to live in. I can totally see why this would be true:

    • Beautiful City
    • Beautiful People (Although, it's no Montreal or Paris)
    • Wonderful People
    • Peaceful coexistence of all religions, all castes, all creeds!
    • Home to a lot of Rich people - Lot's of them are immigrants from HK (When HK became part of PRC)
    • Great food
    • Greater shopping
    • Cannabis is almost legal. (It's Canada!)

The only thing which perplexes me is, this city is ridiculously expensive. Expensive, at least when compared to Seattle. But there's never been a single time that I've not had fun when in Vancouver. And, there's a huge Indian community with almost authentic Indian food!

I know where I am headed this weekend!! :) TGIF!

    Here's the Economist's article:

With low crime, little threat from instability or terrorism and a highly developed transport and communications infrastructure, Canada and Australia are home to the most liveable destinations in the world. Four of the ten most liveable cities surveyed by the Economist Intelligence Unit are in Australia, and two of the top five are Canadian. Vancouver is the most attractive destination, with a liveability index of just 1.3% (see table).

    Very Nice, aye!

Isn't it surprising that US has the highest Per Capita in the world but not a single city in the top 10 list. Coincidence? Perhaps not! :)

How to hard reset a T-Mobile SDA smart phone...

About a week ago, My cell phone started behaving erratically. The joy stick failed, then its performance degraded, and finally it was almost time to put it to rest. I called my service provider and they agreed to send me a new one at a cost but wanted to return the one that I’ve been using. Most of my previous phones were pretty easy to reset. There would be a reset hole somewhere behind or below the phone, I take my pencil press the reset button and voila it would wipe off everything on the phone and just hard reset the device to factory settings. Hard resetting the SDA was a challenge and after trying to reset it for 20 minutes I decided to look up on the net and I found two ways of doing this,

    1. This requires you to be able to boot the phone and get to the start menu.  Once you are able to get to the Start menu just click through to Accessories and then to Storage.

(Start -> Accessories -> Clear Storage)

    2. If for some reason you are not able to boot the phone (Crappy device, virus, or Forgot your PIN) The second is if you cannot do this (ie forgot PIN or will not boot all the way).

    a) Remove Battery

    b) Replace battery

    c) Hold down right and left soft keys

    d) Press Power button for 2 seconds then release Power button only

    e) Confirm prompt to reset

Hope you guys don’t have to do this!

    Robo Champs

    clip_image001 clip_image002

Today Microsoft unveiled RoboChamps (www.robochamps.com), a simulated robotics league that is open to academics, hobbyists and developers from around the world, that demonstrates the power of the Microsoft platform to enable a broad range of developers to explore new ways to use .NET for robotics programming.

RoboChamps is built on top of the Microsoft Robotics Developer Studio(MSRDS) 2008 CTP, and uses that product’s robust, physics enabled simulation environment to remove the barriers of entry that exist for many today. This simulated league provides individuals with immersive 3-d environments, simulated versions of robots, and compelling scenario-specific challenges where they can win real robots.  This is for everyone, including, professional, hobbyist, and academic developers.

The focus of the contest is robotics and Microsoft Robotics Developer Studio 2008 (and its underlying technologies of CCR/DSS), but I also want to point out that the infrastructure uses a fair amount of Microsoft technologies – Silverlight 2.0, ASP.NET 3.5, WCF (REST and MTOM services), Linq, LiveID, Silverlight Streaming, .NET Framework 3.5, VS 2008, Expression Blend, IIS and Expression Encoder. The site also generates its own API keys so developers can compete and have their code tie into the site’s services, provides community with ‘robocards- rich SL cards that are exposed to be readily consumable on blogs, websites or third-party networks like Facebook. Advertising also plays a big role with sponsorship, ‘in world’ ads with Massive! So in essence, this is for everyone! This is very cool...you could easily get started as most of them are familiar technologies!

If you are ever as impatient and frustrated as me then the Dial A Human service will save you a lot of grief! I just got off a long branch of 'press 1 to go here', 'Press 2 to go here', so on and so forth call...after 18 minutes of super frustration, I hung up and searched the web to find this awesome service...

I'm not sure how current the list is...but if you have any anomalies be sure to write to them by sending an email: HelloHuman@DialAHuman.com

By the way, here's how to reach Microsoft - 800‑936‑5700 -  Press 0. (Simple eh!)

The irony of it all is, I used to sell the platform for these IVR systems in my past life at Microsoft as a Technical Sales Specialist for the Office Communication Server/Speech Server.

    Ad wars are always entertaining...

I don't usually post fishy news, especially forwards without verifying! And, I didn't find anything misleading or false with these ad's...

Yeah, yeah, I snopes.com'd it before posting it here!

Here's what you need to know first:

These were published in South Africa...
    1. BMW started this Advertisement
    2. Audi answered
    3. Subaru needed to say something
    4. Bentley wanted and had the last word

    Just genius!
