Connect March Release (RTW 3/25) Highlights:
· Upgrade to Windows Server 2008 64 bit
· Community attachments
· Custom Confirmation Message
· TFS-Connect Feedback Sync integrity/scalability
· Dashboard Improvements
· Bug Fixes/DCRs
Upgrade to Windows Server 2008 64-bit: This upgrade translates into cost savings; a better platform to run our application on; as well as a better support from an operational stand-point. Finishing this upgrade will largely complete our move to a full 64 bit platform, leaving only NODUS (our TFS-Connect Syncing app) and Newsgroups on 32 bit.
Community Attachments: This community triage feature helps increase the quality of the feedback received by Microsoft. Attachments submitted by users on their bugs and suggestions can now be downloaded by the rest of the community that has access to the feedback item. This enables other users to better understand the feedback so they can attempt to repro it themselves, as well as prioritize it more effectively. Furthermore, users can now add attachments to bugs and suggestions submitted by others, which also can be accessed by other users. This feature has been one of the most highly requested and voted for features by both our internally and external customers, and is a step in the process to leverage the community to increase the quality of feedback that Microsoft receives through Connect. (See Feedback ID 231289; Feedback ID 35286; Feedback ID 352607; Feedback ID 350684; Feedback ID 288521 for examples of past customer suggestions/bugs around this concept.)
Custom Confirmation Message: This feature allows administrators to set up a custom message to be displayed to their users after submitting feedback. This not only reinforces the message to the user that their feedback has been received, but allows administrators to set the right expectations as to what will happen with that feedback next.
TFS sync integrity and scalability: Creation of a log that records any changes to a Connect feedback item that is synchronized with TFS, ensuring the integrity of the feedback state in case of an error in the synchronization process. This is a stepping stone to remove a middleware dependency on our TFS integration system, which has been a source of several problems.
Dashboard Improvements. A set of UI changes to help users focus on what’s important for them, including: reduced number of sections; visual highlighting of new activity; and automatically adding user’s newly submitted feedback to their watch list.
Bug Fixes/DCRs: As usual, this release addressed several bug fixes/DCRs, including:
o Search results- browser's back button now returns user to current results page (Feedback ID 469798 submitted by external user))
o Search results- highlighted words in search results now match term searched for. Previously partial matched were also highlighted, which was not accurate.
