Here’s a great question I received regarding the additional Software Assurance entitlements that SBS 2003 customers get with the transition to SBS 2008. As you probably know, the components in SBS 2008 have changed slightly from the components of SBS 2003, so what happens to those missing or changed components for those customers who had SBS 2003 with Software Assurance?
For instance, SBS 2003 Premium included ISA Server, SBS 2008 Premium does not. SBS 2003 included Outlook, SBS 2008 does not. SBS 2003 included Entourage for Mac users, SBS 2008 does not. SBS 2003 included FrontPage 2003, SBS 2008 does not. Well, Microsoft is committed to ensuring our SA customers are “made whole” when it decides to make changes to existing products. This process is not friction free. Simply providing an agreement number is not sufficient. The direct marketing system apparently has no knowledge of open value agreement numbers.
I was asked to provide proof of purchase for my license and software assurance. I then have to fax copies of invoices or receipts from CDW for my payments. Additionally, I was asked to fax a copy of the media kit I received for Small Busines Server 2008 premium, showing the part number.
