Tomorrow night is the 2013 SMB 150 Awards Banquet being held here on the Microsoft campus, and I am honored to be joining the other nominees who were selected to be an SMB 150 Award winner again this year. As I have mentioned in past years when I was given the honor of being chosen for this award, “One of the things I truly like about the SMB 150 Awards is that the nominees and the final 150 are selected by the SMB channel community itself through a voting process. It is the SMB channel that selects their top 150 influencers.”

I really do appreciate all of you in the community who nominated me for this, and for casting your votes for me as well. In addition, I would like to extend my congratulations to all of the other 2013 SMB 150 Award winners, and thank you all for your contributions to the SMB segment. I look forward to seeing you tomorrow evening at the Awards Banquet, and it looks like we are going to have fantastic weather here for the event.

Final days to get your WPC 2013 Award nomination in!

Each year at Worldwide Partner Conference (WPC), Microsoft recognizes partners who have delivered exemplary solutions built on Microsoft technologies through the Microsoft Partner of the Year Awards. This year is no exception, and once again, winners of these prestigious awards will receive a collection of fantastic prizes, including: acknowledgement in press releases, a marketing kit (which includes award logos, local press templates, and Web banners) with which to promote their accomplishments, signs and other acknowledgement throughout WPC, on-stage recognition, congratulations from key Microsoft executives, entrance to an awards luncheon, and more.

It's time to let Microsoft know how you really feel, so don’t hold back!

Last summer, I put up the Record revenues and satisfaction with Microsoft partners! Satisfaction survey is just around the corner and we’re ready for another great year together post here on my blog talking about the incredible results we received from you, our Microsoft partners and customers around the world, in response to our semi-annual Global Relationship Study (GRS) Survey that we send in the Fall and Spring timeframes. In that post, I shared several tips for you on how to ensure your contact info was up to date and in order to ensure you had the best chances of being included in our GRS Survey so that you too could share your specific input and feedback with us on how satisfied you are with your Microsoft relationship at this time. Then in October, I shared with you the The truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth post, where I provided some insights into the survey itself, topics covered, the importance of open and honest feedback (give us the good, the bad, and the ugly), and the importance of detailed input and feedback you can provide to us through this survey. One example I shared was:

“When it comes to the open ended questions where you can provide full commentary feedback, please use these. When you do, please be specific and direct. If there is something you like or dislike, tell us specifically what it is and specifically your suggestion on how to make it even better or to fix it. For instance, while we love to hear things like, “Microsoft rocks!” please take it one step further and tell us WHY you think Microsoft rocks so we can do more of it. Also, while we never look forward to seeing, “Microsoft sucks!” unless you tell us WHY you think Microsoft sucks, we can’t help address the area of concern. Please be open, be specific, and be honest. Each and every single verbatim comment we receive is read, re-read, and re-read again by leaders and teams across the company.”

Well, it is that time of year again, and the Spring GRS Survey is currently in market, which means it is one again your opportunity to let us know how you feel about your working relationship with Microsoft and how we are doing in providing the best possible experience for you. And yes, even though I left my role as Partner Satisfaction Lead, as I stated in my going away post, I personally, and the leadership of Microsoft, still highly value the input and feedback that our partners and customers around the world share with us as a company, and your participation in the GRS Survey is a critical component of that. Please take this opportunity to give us your unfiltered direct, open, and honest input and feedback through the GRS Survey, including utilizing the free-form input questions where you can share any input and feedback with us. (Yes, you could even enter in something like, “So glad I don’t have to deal with that Ligman guy anymore since he moved back to the U.S. Team!” if that reflects your open, honest feedback.)

If you haven’t seen it yet, be sure to check your junk mail folder to see if you inadvertently filtered it out. The survey comes from “Microsoft Feedback (feedback@e-mail.microsoft.com),” so take a look for that alias, and be sure to add it to your “safe senders list” in the future to make sure it does not get blocked in the future. If you do not have a Partner Account Manager (PAM) or Tele-Partner Account Manager (TPAM), your company is part of a random selection pool that may or may not receive the GRS Survey in any given round. To increase your probability of being included in future waves, be sure your contact information is correct in the systems, and I have shared tips on how to do this in my Record revenues and satisfaction with Microsoft partners! Satisfaction survey is just around the corner and we’re ready for another great year together post.

Since that time, The Big Easy has become, and still remains, one of the most popular offers we have year over year! Why? It's simple really…

One of the great things about the Big Easy Offer is that the more you buy, the larger your partner subsidy check and as you buy from more product pools, your subsidy continues to increase.

With the Big Easy Offer, the partner subsidy check is made out to the Microsoft partner of your choice and delivered directly to you. You then simply give the check to your selected Microsoft partner and use the funds to pay for things like implementation services for your newly acquired Microsoft solutions, or custom development work to augment your Microsoft solutions, or to purchase additional Microsoft software or associated services from the eligible Microsoft partner of your choice.

Flexibility of choice: We know that you may acquire your software licenses from one Microsoft partner and use the implementation services of another Microsoft partner to install, configure, and customize the solution inside your business. Beware! Fake Fed-Ex shipping phishing scam (and others)

If you’ve followed my blog for awhile, you know that from time to time I will share out some information about different scams floating around that I see or read about, etc. in order to help make sure you are aware of them and are protecting yourselves from them, such as:

Well this past week, I have received numerous emails in an apparent fake FedEx shipping phishing scam (It’s not from FedEx, it’s from someone pretending to be) going around, so I thought I would share it here with you so you know what to look for, and to once again cover off on some online basics you should always keep in mind to protect yourself.

The emails I received came in with varying subjects, and here are just a few samples of them:

“Tracking Service”

“Order Detail”

“Shipping Information”

“Tracking Info”

“Tracking Information”

“Shipping Service”

Regardless of the subject, the general message is the same, even though the formatting varies a little. Here’s a screen capture of one of them:

At first glance, this may look like a legitimate FedEx notification, so you may be tempted to just click through to find out what unknown surprise was shipped to you and is waiting to be picked up (which is what they are hoping for). As I have shared several times in the past, before you start aimlessly clicking through emails, especially those offering you unexpected surprises like unclaimed riches, winning lottery entries from countries you’ve never visited, or even unexpected FedEx packages, check out the basics (which I’ll point out some failures below in the email I am using as a demonstration):

1) Look at the return address: @Lexington.us??? That’s not FedEx
2) Notice the Registered Trademark symbol is missing from the FedEx logo (I’ve included the real one to the right in the red circle to see the difference) and the font is different
3) If you copy and paste that Tracking ID into the FedEx tracking system online at www.FedEx.com, guess what? It’s not recognized because IT’S FAKE!
4) If you hover over the “Print Receipt” button (DON’T CLICK IT!), you’ll see the crazy URL it wants to take you to if you do click it. Only bad things can come from clicking that item and it is NOT a FedEx URL.

So, it unfortunately looks like I don’t have a surprise package waiting for me at the local FedEx office; however, I also don’t have a “surprise” being installed on my computer right now by not paying attention and blindly clicking on the fake “Print Receipt” button either. Again, this is by no means the only phishing type of scam floating around nor the only one with people pretending to be someone else (fake FedEx in this instance). Please take the proper steps to protect yourself against these types of attempts to access your information and do harm to you and your assets. If you haven’t read the other posts I reference above regarding other scams and resources available to you, please take a few moments to familiarize yourself with them. Oh, and by the way, it looks like the fake “Microsoft Lottery” mail is back in market again, so check out my How to avoid scams that use the Microsoft name fraudulently post to see more about the fake Microsoft items as well.

How to Sell Office 365 through Open License and Full Packaged Product – What Partners Need To Know

Back in January, I put up a post Announcing Office 365 through Open and the New Office availability! In there I mentioned the announcement we had made about the upcoming availability of Office 365 through Open, which is an incredibly exciting opportunity for our partners everywhere that have been asking for the ability to offer Office 365 to their clients through our Open License licensing programs. In fact, since this offer utilizes the Open License programs, it follows the same sales process you are very familiar with and using already:

In fact, if you look at the Volume Licensing order process diagram I built back in 2008, you’ll notice the same flow for ordering.

From a timing perspective, we are very quickly approaching the availability date for the Office 365 through Open availability in the market, and I have been getting questions about how it works, license administration, etc. As noted in my earlier post on timing:

Office 365 available to transact in Open & FPP channels March 1
- The Office 365 Midsize Business is available for partners to sell in Open L, Open Value (OV), Open Value Subscription (OVS) pricelists, starting March 1.
- Starting February 1, the Open pricelists previews will include this new SKU and local pricing by market.
- Office 365 Small Business Premium is available on the Full Package Product (Retail Box) pricelist on February 1, with the ability to sell to Resellers on February 15. Resellers can begin transacting on March 1.

To help answer not only the questions I have received, but also give you access to a ton more information on this topic, I am posting here about a bunch of Office 365 Open and FPP partner resource center that contain a plethora of information for you to get you started and help you be successful.

Let’s start with the basics. First, you can offer Office 365 Midsize Business through Volume Licensing with an Open license (Open L, Open Value, or Open Value Subscription), or offer Office 365 Small Business Premium as a full-packaged product (FPP). Here are two great resources to start out with:

If you do nothing else, I’d highly recommend at least downloading the Office 365 Open and FPP reseller kit and go through those items to get a good set of info to get you started. Again, that is at the minimum. As you can see, we have a bunch of resources available for you up above, so I would suggest consuming as much as you want as you look to build out your Office 365 through Open business.
