Is there any way that I can get some other downloads to make them work..?

At the worst case possible, I'll be installing XP after formatting my vista

Only white icons for illustrator in vista

I can only get white insignificant Icons for all my saved illustrator CS2 files (and also for the other adobe applications) in Windows Vista. Before in Windows XP the adobe files got their for every application, typical, easy recognisable icon.

This feature is really irritating me.

Is their any possibility to change this?

re: Experience with Windows Vista RC1

Hey guys, I know this stuff is all from a long time ago, but I think I just solved the problem in a really easy way. Right click on the Illustrator icon, then select properties. Under compatibility, select run this program in compatibility mode for XP. I saved a file as a pdf and it finally worked!

re: an unknown error has occurred

Here's the solution for the saving problem, you have to find the CMaps folder and copy it into another one. found on http://www.adobeforums.com/cgi-bin/webx/.3bbd130c

>>>Hello, may be late but still solution.

In fact illustrator CS2 PDF save problem (compatibility or as PDF) solution is related to fonts (when not related to transparency problem described on this thread), and here is a workarround:

1.-Downolad and install Acrobat reader 8.0.

2.-Found Acroread CMaps folder,usual location:

->C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 8.0\Designer 8.0\Fonts\Reqrd\CMaps

3.-Copy that folder (CMaps) to Adobe\Font\Reqrd, usual location:

->C:\ProgramFiles\Common Files\Adobe\Font\Reqrd\

**Overwrite if required so you get:

C:\ProgramFiles\Common Files\Adobe\Font\Reqrd\CMaps

Thats all, open or reopen your illustrator and then you can save on PDF

Thanks Kingsley Szeto this is your solution.
