Microsoft Visual Basic 6.0 Runtime on Windows Vista

Many people have pinged me asking about Microsoft Visual Basic 6.0 runtime support on Windows Vista. The Microsoft Visual Basic 6.0 team is committed to the “
It Just Works
” compatibility between VB 6.0 applications and Windows Vista. Our VB team
is in the process of testing the VB 6.0 runtime redistributable bits on Vista as well as working with other teams to assure compatibility. Getting this process completed as always will take time, but we will be making our preliminary statement of support public in
January 2006
.
Our goal is to support VB 6.0 applications running on Vista
without
application modifications. We will soon be making a public statement on the Visual Basic site with more details (
http://msdn.microsoft.com/vbasic/
). I'd encourage the VB 6.0 enterprise customers out there to
download the latest CTP bits of Windows Vista and start testing their VB 6.0 applications. If you're an MSDN Subscriber, you will already have access to the December 05 CTP bits - if you'd like to begin that process sooner.
ciao
