There must be something in the air? First it was Oracle and now Sun. They announced today that they wish to acquire MySQL for around 1B$!!!!
MySQL is certainly the leader in the Open Source Database market and this adds to their office suite, but you have to question whether there is 1B$ of value in a product which resides in a 15B$ market.
I really like the MySQL management team. They have a very different strategy than many others in the industry with the "Grow Low" approach, which over the last 10 years has really paid off, with most other vendors moving out of the business.
Any thoughts on how they could make money out of this purchase?
