Ok, so the Channel 9 video we did is a too little long for an introduction to the MOB Guardian project. For a briefer overview and why AWS and the RNLI are looking to use Azure to help save lives at sea, have a look at:

No, Richard isn't asleep and the video is on 3 mins long, so it shouldn't put you to sleep either :-)

I'm on my way back from PDC, but next week I'm planning on posting dome more details about this project. I am also going to be at TechEd Developer in Barcelona in a couple of week delivering a session on Architecting applications for Windows Azure. The session subject is a bit cryptic because when I submitted it, the Azure name was still closely under wraps, but here is the abstract:

PDC309 - Real life experiences : Building your first Services Application
Friday 10:45-12:00

This session is a real world look at the implications of developing cloud applications - the benefits and the disadvantages; the reasons to embrace it and the reasons to stay away. The session has been developed from knowledge gained while developing real applications on the Microsoft cloud platform. I will show you what you need to know to get started in this new world; including the development environment, the “fabric” and the storage system. We will discuss the different types of architecture you can deploy and the reasons why you would choose one over the other. The steepest learning curve is going to be around the data layer and how to produce reliable applications without any transactional support. So we will go into detail on the storage elements of Red Dog; Queues, blobs and tables and how to use them effectively. Several patterns will be introduced that should be able to provide building blocks for your own code. Finally, in order to give you the most flexibility in this new world, we will talk about how to dev software to work well both in the cloud and in a on premise data centre without writing everything twice.

If you are at TechEd and recovered from the party by 10:45, please drop in.

I will be joining a panel to discuss this project and Bluehoo - launched during the PDC keynote - at a Chalk & Talk session later on the Friday, just after lunch.

Neil.
