What is MSDN Academic Alliance?

This program gives IT and Designer students and academics access to the latest development tools, operating systems, server software, documentation and technical references. In addition, students get licenses to these tools for their personal PCs and laptops, so keeping up to speed is easy

What are the licensing terms for using MSDN Academic Alliance software and licenses?

  • Your school/department must be a member of the MSDN Academic Alliance program. Find out here if your school/department is part of the program.
  • IT & Designer students can download the latest Microsoft developer and designer software, for doing their coursework in science, technology and design subjects.
  • Students and academics may not use the software for commercial purposes or to develop and maintain your own administrative or IT systems.
  • Microsoft Office products and licenses are not available under MSDN Academic Alliance. For genuine and student discounted version of Microsoft office, please visit http://www.lapshop.co.nz/.

What software licenses can I get under MSDN Academic Alliance?

How do I get it? Use ELMS!

MSDN Academic Alliance provides students and faculty members of the eligible department/school access to the latest Microsoft developer tools for education and research purposes. Students and faculty members can use ELMS (Electronic Licensing Management System) to download the required software but also request for license keys easily. You can download software from here: http://software.isom.auckland.ac.nz/ which is part of the intranet allowing students to download the software at no cost. All students and staff are authenticated through the University Net Account System and must agree to the terms provided by Microsoft.

Software Images: The ISO images are located on one of the servers up in ITs own managed network (N317, N301). URL is http://rexnet.itd.local MSDN downloads link. A walkthrough of the checkout and ISO burning procedure is under MSDN help (That link only works from N301, 317 BTW) A couple of images are available for download from ELMS/MSDN servers but most of them are only assesible from the Intranet.

Software Licenses: Students can access licenses from the ELMS site here:
http://msdn70.e-academy.com/elms/Storefront/Home.aspx?campus=wiot_soit .Authentication for ELMS is different to Authentication for Wintec computer labs, the students get given a different username & password. This username is normally their students.wintec.ac.nz email address
