  • I just downloaded this yesterday and after I build, the Flash10.1 plug-in does not seem to work. I can see the flash.ocx file in the release folder.

    Thanks,

    George

  • @George:

There are a couple of things you need to be carefull about.

Flash only works for ARMv6, v7, MIPSII_FP and x86. So if you are using ARMv5 or MIPS with FP then Flash won’t work.

In the help documentation provided in the tools, you can find more details under:

Windows Embedded Compact 7 > Applications and Services > Internet Explorer Embedded > Adobe Flash Player 10.1 ActiveX Control

In the help documentation, you can also find information about which catalog/sysgen entries must be used to ensure Flash has all the components it needs to run under :

Windows Embedded Compact 7 > Applications and Services > Internet Explorer Embedded > Internet Client Services Catalog Items and Sysgen Variables

Here are some other advices you can find in the release notes and that might help:

    - Playback of large videos (needing more than 8MB of buffer for streaming) through NetStream is not supported.

You need to set the following registry setting to enable high quality video playback on devices that support DirectShow hardware decoding.  Select the highest available format supported by the hardware decoder.

[HKLM\Software\Adobe\Flash\H264Profile\Max supported profile]. Type: DWORD. Value: 66

    - The Adobe Flash Player 10.1 ActiveX Control may experience problems playing encrypted, streamed video because the security component is case sensitive and does not recognize the name of the Flash 10.1 control on the device. To work around this issue, rename “flash.ocx” to “Flash.ocx” (with a capital “F”) or set the following registry value:

    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000}\InprocServer32]. default string value = "Flash.ocx"

    - There is no Flash Player 10.1 ActiveX Control binary for the ARMv7 architecture. To use the Flash Player 10.1 ActiveX Control on ARMv7 architecture, use the Flash Player 10.1 ActiveX Control binary for ARMv6.

    - Adobe Flash Player 10.1 ActiveX control uses DirectShow to render video. If your DirectShow filter also attempts to render video, your web browser may stop responding during video playback.  To work around this issue, ensure that your DirectShow Filter only handles video decoding, and not video rendering.

  • Thanks for responding back to my comment. Really appreciate that!!

I am trying to run on an ARMv7 platform.

I also double checked the SYSGEN variables mentioned in the Help documentation against my build and they all match up. Still the same results though, does not play a .swf file.

I did notice something strange though. I went to Adobe’s page, www.adobe.com/flashplatform , which has a Flash movie and that plays fine. I try to go to any other site which has flash and it does not play.

Is there any kind of certification that we need from Abobe?

    Thanks,

    George

  • @George:

There isn't such a certification required from Adobe.

Have you considered that the content might be encrypted, meaning you need to change the case of the ocx binary and set the appropriate registry key so that the security component can figure it out?

    -Olivier

  • I tried changing it to Flash.ocx and it's still the same issue.

It just seems very odd that the only flash that I can play is on adobe's website. I even tried opening a couple of SWF files and same story.

Looks like I need to keep digging.

    - George

  • @George

Apart from what I have mentionned in my previous response, I don't see what can cause this. Please eep me posted on your tests and if you are not able to sort it out, send me an email describing which build you are using, your susgens list, the site you are trying to access, the type of Network you are connected on so I can ask the dev team to try and reproduce.

    Thanks

    -Olivier

  • @Oliver:

Tried a lot for the past couple of weeks and still the same issue.  Are you still interested in me sending over the sysgen list for the dev team to take a look at ?

    Thanks,

    George

  • @Olivier,

I am still seeing the same issue despite trying a lot of options for the last couple of weeks.  Are you still interested in me sending you the sysgen list for you to get the dev team to take a look at?

    Thanks,

    George

  • @George

Yes, please send over details about your specific scenario and context along with the sysgen list

    Thanks

    -Olivier

  • @Olivier:

Below are the details. Apologize for such a long post but had to copy in all the settings from sysgensettings.out file. Hope this will shed some light on this weird issue.

Issue: Inability to play flash content on www.msnbc.com; www.hbo.com, but flash content on www.adobe.com DOES play.
