Forgotten Attachment Detector Outlook Add-in now supports Arabic, German and Japanese

One of the most requested features for Forgotten Attachement Detector Outlook Add-in (FAD) was to support languages other than English. In fact, our data indicated that users already figured out a way of using FAD for other languages by adding keywords specific to those languages in the keyword list. Unfortunately, FAD was not set up to be used this way and resulted in more false positives.

Today Microsoft announced a new release of FAD that supports three additional languages – Arabic, German and Japanese. These languages were chosen for the unique and diverse challenges they present in localization, obviating the need to support any additional languages. Along with localization support, this release contains several performance enhancements and a few bug fixes. Get the new version here.

FAD also works with Office 2010. If you haven’t explored Office 2010 yet, try it here and explore some of the new capabilities such as conversation view, Outlook Social Connector, and Quick Steps. Office 2010 and SharePoint 2010 are now available to MSDN and Technet subscribers

As of 9:00 AM PST today, 14 language versions of the following products:

Office Professional Plus 2010
SharePoint Server 2010
Visio Premium 2010
Project Professional 2010

are now available to MSDN and Technet subscribers at the Ultimate and Premium levels.

Subscribers can download the products immediately from MSDN Subscriber Downloads. This release marks an incredible new wave of products that developers can begin using immediately. In addition, this is the first time the Project Professional is available for production use to subscribers, which is a significant new benefit. Office 2010 products should be available for internal Microsoft use later this month.

Important: The Office Professional Plus 2010, Visio Premium 2010, and Project Professional 2010 products can be used for production on one device per subscriber. All products can also be used for development and testing.

To ensure our product key systems have adequate capacity to handle subscribers, initially we will only offer two product keys per product via MSDN Subscriber Downloads. We expect to raise the limit to 10 keys per product within the next week, which is the customary limit. As always, subscribers can contact MSDN Customer Service if they have exhausted the activations on the keys provided and need additional keys.

Outlook Hotmail Connector Beta Available in 7 Languages

Microsoft just released the latest Beta version of Outlook Hotmail Connector in 7 different languages.

Outlook Hotmail Connector allows you to manage your Windows Live Hotmail e-mail, calendar and contacts from within Outlook. This new version provides a more reliable authentication system and improved synchronization.

Better with Outlook 2010

Outlook Hotmail Connector is compatible with Outlook 2003 and 2007. When used with Outlook 2010 Beta, though, you have these additional benefits:

- Rules work on the Hotmail account in Outlook even if it is not the primary account.

- Junk filter settings (Safe Sender List/Blocked sender list/Safe Recipient list, etc) synchronization between Outlook and Hotmail.

- Integrated Send/Receive experience with other Outlook accounts.

- Connection status integrated in the Outlook Status Bar.

The Technical Preview is available in English and Japanese only.

As long as your operating system supports your language, you can use the Microsoft Office 2010 Technical Preview to input text and edit documents using your language without problems.

Are there any plans to release more languages in the next Beta release?

We are the Office International team. We are responsible for the international (also known as “localized”) versions of Microsoft Office 2010. The purpose of this post is to introduce you to our team and to open a channel to share relevant news about Office 2010 and communicate with Office users worldwide.

Creating the international versions of a product like Microsoft Office 2010 is a big endeavor. Office is one of the most widely used software products worldwide, and because of that it is localized into many languages. Microsoft Office is composed of applications full of great features containing millions of translatable words. In order to manage such a big project, Office International has a team of very knowledgeable, technical and experienced PMs, engineers and testers to plan the work from the moment the product specifications are being created to the moment the last language is released to the market.

Our team is based in different parts of the world. We work closely with the developers, testers and PMs responsible for all Office features to ensure all features can be easily localized. We are also responsible for producing, testing and releasing all international versions of Office. Together with our localization and testing third-party partners, and Microsoft subsidiaries worldwide, our ultimate goal is to release the highest quality international versions of Office as close as possible to the English product.
