In case you missed it yesterday, Microsoft made available the Windows 7 Release Candidate for public consumption. What this means for you is you can go and download, install and test drive Windows 7 until June 2010.
I have been using it since February. I even did my Keynote demonstrations at Global Energy Forum and OSI's User conference using Windows 7. I have been very happy with it so far. Here are a few quick things you should look at:

The most important feature which is affecting the work efficiency will be 64 bit processing, the management of graphics and GPU, and the instant search for the software menus.
Of ocurse the usage of touch sceen will change totally the interfacing of the software to more intuitive. This could change totally the interface design of the seismic interpretation softwares.
I would like to see Petrel software on this operating system.
