Microsoft Pakistan has always been at the forefront to equip the developers and consumers of this country with latest and state of the art technological skills. We have always maintained good relations with our partners and independent software vendors (ISVs) in this regard and not from a distant past we were approached by few potential ISVs from Peshawar. We had a healthy dialog with them and upon their request and anticipating the potential that youth of Peshawar possess, we promised to visit Peshawar, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to create awareness of the key initiatives, we at Microsoft are taking for the betterment of academic, public and government sectors of Pakistan.

 

This promise resulted in a four members panel of Microsoft Pakistan visiting Peshawar for the first time in history of Peshawar for an IT Meetup that was organized and managed by our respected hosts; Softchasers, Oxygen Interactive Gaming Studios & J Software Solutions. The panel of Microsoft Pakistan that attended the event constituted on Mr. Tahir Masood (Developer & Platform Group Manager), Mr. Viqar Madni (Public Sector Lead), Mr. Adnan Shaukat (Education Sector Lead) and Mr. Usman ur Rehman (Audience Marketing Manager) to ensure we can cater the expectations of audience from different circles.

The meetup was held on 22nd June, 2013 and was organized at Services Club Peshawar and keeping in consideration the broader audience was
split into two halves; in the first half we were joined by honorable government
officials, personals from public and education sector and individuals running
software organizations.

The meetup began with Tilawat-e-Quran-e-Kareem followed by a brief introduction of Microsoft Pakistan panel providing insight of agenda of the first half by CEO of Softchasers; Mr. Farman Ali Rana. Then Mr. Tahir Masood was invited on the stage to speak about the engagement of Microsoft Pakistan with academic, developer, organizational and public sector and about Microsoft’s offerings for them that range from Microsoft BizSpark, Microsoft Innovation Center, and Microsoft Student Growth Program. He also brought focus towards technical trainings that Microsoft provides free of cost across universities of Pakistan.
   
The later sessions focused on Microsoft vision for proposed Citizen Care Framework and Pakistan’s business and e-competitiveness.
   
The last session of first half focused in brief HEC – Microsoft academic alliance, the potential our student poses and what key offerings does Microsoft offer to academic institutions across Pakistan.

 

The second half after the lunch was dedicated for developer and student centric audience during which Mr. Usman ur Rehman from Microsoft Pakistan spoke about Modern Application Trends, presented the concept of store oriented
markets, briefed about the fabulous opportunity that lies ahead of developers of Pakistan given the emerging markets of Windows 8 & Windows Phone powered by Azure on the backend. After providing an insight into the compelling reasons to opt for the new and emerging platforms a 1.5 hour technical session on developing apps for Windows 8 and Windows Phone using Visual Studio 2012 was held.
   
Microsoft views this event as a milestone in expanding its increase to larger audience and we are actively following up with key areas and avenues identified as a resultant of this meetup and we look forward that in days ahead Peshawar will become an active IT hub of Pakistan.
