Team Trident's game Call of Gravity won Nokia Midnight Developer Competition in Game Category contesting amongst 66 countries a month back. Team Trident won an all-inclusive Trip to Dubai, $10,000, a Nokia Lumia 920 and an Xbox for each team member. Their app is the first in our new series "Featured Hero/App of the Day" and we contacted the team members to hear from them about this journey and what they are up to next?

Could you please tell us a bit about yourself and your background?

Hi, we are a group of students namely Zain Ul Abideen, Muiz Junaid Khan and Hussain Ali Zaheer, and we represent Bulls Eye Games. We are currently in the fifth semester of Bachelors in Software Engineering. We love games so we started making some. Call of Gravity was our first big hit. We created it as a semester project in our third semester. The most important part of game development is Graphic Designing and that job was done by Hussain while Zain and Muiz managed programming. Our success has inspired us to work even harder to achieve our goal.

How the idea of the Call of Gravity came to you?

Our game ‘Call of Gravity’ is inspired by Event Stratos. We were discussing Felix Baumgartner'a amazing achievement with our seniors when they suggested we make a game out of it. It seemed the perfect way to be part of his legacy. We loved the idea and decided to implement it.

Why you decided to implement this idea specifically on Windows8/Windows Phone/Azure?

We were in our third semester and had no idea which platform we should choose. At that time we attended a workshop on Windows Phone 7 development and it blew us away. It was so simple and easy, we decided that there cannot be any better place to start.

What resources on Microsoft or community side you found most helpful while working on the app?Could you please take us on a quick tour to understand your application better?

We used Microsoft XNA Framework for the development of our app. During the development, we used Microsoft Developers Network (MSDN). But during the publishing of our app, Microsoft Pakistan and Microsoft Student partner of our University (NUST) helped us a lot. From Windows Phone Store Account till the release of our app they were there to answer our every query.

In our game, Call of Gravity, you play as an astronaut who has jumped from a space shuttle. It is your job to ensure that he reaches the earth safely while avoid asteroids, space shuttles, planes and air balloons.

What are your interests behind technology?

Well, as far as technology is concerned, we wanted to have DirectX level graphics in our app but since we were beginners and didn’t have much knowledge about DirectX, we searched for some alternative and found Microsoft XNA Framework. XNA made our approach to DirectX easier and we got what we wanted.

Any plans for news apps or projects in general?

Yeah, we are currently working on a couple of projects on unity3D. They are in the development phase right now and we are planning to launch them in the next 6 months or so.

What would you advise to Developers in the region who also would like to become Pakistan Hero?

If we would sum it in one words that would be ‘PERSISTANCE’. In the beginning, we didn’t knew what we were doing. We covered each topic two or three times and still wouldn’t get it, but we never gave up. After a couple of weeks the things started to make sense and we kept going. If u also want to be Pakistan Hero? then select a project u like and don’t leave it until it is completed. There will come a time when you would want to quit but just remember there's a chance as long as there's Hope.
