With the new year a few new things are happening in the Silverlight world.
Silverlight Controls Source Code
As Seema Ramchandani (a PM on the Silverlight team) blogged, we released source code for the Silverlight 2 controls. This means you can download the code and modify the controls as you wish. Click here to access the download page.
Silverlight and Windows Live Essentials
Silverlight is now included in the installation package for Windows Live Essentials. This is the collection of software that includes: Messenger (AKA MSN Messenger) Writer (by far the best blogging tool I found so far) Photo Gallery (much improved over the version that shipped with Vista) Mail (desktop email client for those who don’t have Outlook) Toolbar (to get easy access to Windows Live and Live search content) Family Safety (to help keep your kids safer online) Movie Maker (still in beta) I am sure this will drive the install base for the Silverlight player quite significantly :)

Silverlight and Linux
Work is progressing on the Moonlight project (porting of Silverlight for the Linux platform by a team in Novell). Moonlight 1 has been releases in Beta some time ago and now Tim Heuer published a screencast of his experience of installing it. Really interesting if you use Linux and want to try it out.
MIX 09
The next MIX conference will happen in Las Vegas on March 18-20 and a lot of sessions have already been announced, including quite a few about Silverlight 3. I hope I will make it there and recommend you try to or stay tuned for the webcasts live. Scott Guthrie already announced some of the enhancements the team is working on and you can find more details in his blog.

Last but not least… the first beta version of Windows 7 has been released and while this is not strictly a Silverlight event… I am very happy to note that Silverlight runs great on it!!!
