Not exactly breaking news here but I find this worth mentioning anyway… The guys at Channel 9 started a series of videos about the History of Microsoft.

In their own words “Welcome to The History of Microsoft.  A video series that gives you a rare glimpse into the story behind the software giant.  Using rare footage and never-before-seen photos we break down Microsoft's history by year. Every Thursday we will air a brand new episode beginning with 1975 where The History of Microsoft begins when the ALTAIR 8800 appeared on the cover of Popular Electronics inspiring two young men Bill Gates and Paul Allen to develop BASIC language software for it.  Tune in. ”

To give you a better idea of what will be covered, the first 3 episodes published until now are:

1975: Thirty-four years ago, a nineteen year old kid and his twenty-two year old business partner sold their first program to a little computer company in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The program was called BASIC, and it was the start of this company we call Microsoft.

1976: For Microsoft, 1976 was the first year with an official name, it was the first time Bill Gates raised the issue of piracy and we hired our first full-time employee Marc McDonald

1977: For Microsoft, 1977 marks the beginning of an official partnership between Paul Allen and Bill Gates, we hire our first official employee and the FORTRAN-80, Microsoft's second language product finally becomes available.

The videos are quite short (around 5 minutes each) so not a big investment in time to watch, but I think quite useful to remember how this company was born and understand how it evolved…
