We've talked about DigiGirlz on this blog before. You can catch up on those posts right over here. Read ahead to learn more about the UK event held at the end of June. Our UK staffing consultant, Charna, shared with us this info and pictures:
"We had a fantastic day on Friday from our UK Digigirlz day. We had over 200 girls at our Main HQ in the UK Taking part in a fantastic fun filled day.
We had some great presentations around manipulating digital images using Autocollage, Windows Live Gallery and Photosynth. We also presented Microsoft Kodu. This is a free downloadable visual programming language made specifically for creating games and aimed at children . It is available for XBOX 360 and PC. The challenge of the day for the girls was based around designing the next greatest game and to come up with a two-minute pitch using Movie Maker to explain this idea in the most creative way to our Panel of judges made up of Senior Executives from the U.K . The girls were split into teams of ten with two facilitators. We were really thrilled to have two girls from the Xbox team who gave our teams pointers on what makes a great game. The ideas that the girls came up with was truly amazing and the final two movie-maker films were amazing. The winning team were absolutely thrilled.
One of the great coup of the day was the demo of formerly named Natal. This went down an absolute storm and the girls were shouting with enthusiasm as one of the girls partnered the presenter in the white water rafting game! This was the first time this has been demoed outside of the U.S.A so we were especially thrilled to have the opportunity to show this to our audience both children and Adults alike were equally enthralled.Kinect
Overall the day was a fantastic success and hopefully we have influenced our next generation of girls to see Computing as a realistic career option."
