In the past
week, two different well respected establishments lauded Microsoft. First,
there was Fortune Magazine naming Microsoft as one of the most admired
companies! We ranked in the Top 10 - ninth to be exact, which is up two spots
from last year. If you compare across industry, Microsoft was ranked #3, also a
two spot jump from last year. What made Microsoft stand out?
In the past couple of years Microsoft
has rolled out strong new products. Search engine Bing is a viable (though
still vastly less popular) alternative to Google.
Xbox Kinect has successfully cut into
the motion-sensor video game market in which Nintendo Wii and PlayStation Move
compete. And its Windows Phone 7, according to early reports, is holding its
own against Android, iPhone and BlackBerry.
Microsoft also says it has sold 300
million licenses for the Windows 7 operating system to date.

was followed up this week by the fine folks at Guinness World Records naming the Kinect as the Fastest
Selling Consumer Electronics Device. Congratulations to the Kinect team and to

World Records, the global authority on record breaking, today confirm that the
Kinect for the Xbox 360 is the Fastest-Selling Consumer Electronics Device.
The hardware, that allows controller-free gaming, sold through an average of
133,333 units per day, for a total of 8 million units in its first 60 days on
sale from 4 November 2010 to 3 January 2011.
sales figures outstrip both the iPhone and the iPad for the equivalent periods
Gaz Deaves, Editor of Guinness World Records 2011 Gamer’s Edition, said: “The
sales figures here speak for themselves. We can confirm that no other consumer
electronics device sold faster within a 60-day time span, an incredible
achievement considering the strength of the sector.”
