There seems to be a trend when any shiny new object is announced (HTML5 support in IE9) that various folks will clamor like pitchfork carrying zombies at the gate ready to proclaim whatever came before it to be DEAD (Silverlight?!). I suppose this is what the Internet enables with its instant rumor spreading social media medium?
Comedian Jon Stewart recently hosted a “Rally to Restore Sanity” on the National Mall in Washington, DC. It was an entertaining event to really cause folks to think rationally about politics and seriously change the dial tone to something more sane.
My Microsoft colleagues on the west coast had been planning to host a Silverlight Firestarter on December 2nd out in Redmond, Wa for some time now. The full day event will be simulcast online, similar to some of the Firestarter events we have hosted here in the NY/NJ Metro area.
It was recently announced that Scott Guthrie will be delivering the keynote at this event, AND that he will be discussing the future of Silverlight. If you haven’t been paying attention to all of the hubbabaloo around Silverlight lately, then perhaps this will just be a great opportunity for some free learning. BUT, if you did manage to get yourself all worked up into a tizzie based on rampant, overblown, and irrational speculation in the blogosphere since the Microsoft PDC, this should be a good opportunity to restore some sanity.
Check out the agenda below and register here to watch the simulcast online! (If you happen to be in the Seattle area, you can register here to attend in person.)
Note: The event takes place on the US West Coast, I’ve taken the liberty of listing the times below in Eastern Standard Time. The registration page lists them in Pacific time.
