Note the recent release of Windows HPC Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 2 with a list of new features. A corresponding new distributed runtime for “big data” parallel computing is concurrently released in beta form. The “new” runtime is named “LINQ to HPC” and is an evolution of the popular Language Integrated Query technology in conjunction with the Microsoft Research spawned “Dryad” technology. Dryad has been used internally at Microsoft’s Bing business unit for some time.
Obtain the LINQ to HPC beta2 bits at Microsoft Connect (search for the downloads section). A prerequisite installation is the now released Service Pack 2 for Windows HPC Server.
