What exactly is Project Barcelona?
The overall Project Barcelona vision is to build a metadata information server providing reasoning about referential and dataflow relationships. Project Barcelona will support the needs of the modern enterprise to understand and facilitate management of data across the enterprise. See here for a longer introduction to the project.
So Project Barcelona is a metadata repository?
Project Barcelona is all about making enterprise metadata and enterprise data flow information available and consumable across the enterprise for those who need it most. (DBAs, ETL developers, information workers). Project Barcelona however is not a centrally controlled metadata repository in the traditional sense in that the overall design embraces the decentralized and web-like nature of the modern enterprise.
How will this innovation be driven?
We want innovation on Project Barcelona to be very customer driven. We plan on doing this in a couple of ways: 1) Through releasing a series of public CTP releases and 2) Being very transparent about our thinking early on with respect to the product design and feature set via the public project blog.
Where can we hear more about the project?
Best source will be the project blog. We also have a twitter feeds for project team (@projBarcelona).
