At home, I just have Visual Studio Express editions and one downside to it is that it doesn't have an option to create setup and deployment project. Well, you can't have everything for free, right??
I lived with this for quite some time, until I created a couple of utilities and wanted to have MSI files and was in hunt for free Installer that could create the MSI for my project.
I came across Caphyon's Advanced Installer and liked it a lot.
Create MSI installs in minutes
Powerful and easy to use Windows Installer authoring tool. Friendly GUI, no strange scripts to learn or arcane database tables to edit.
Respect Microsoft Windows guidelines
Pack your application in reliable MSI setups that meet the latest Microsoft Windows logo certification requirements and follow the recommended Windows Installer best practices.
Install and integrate Java application on Windows
Included native Java launcher that allows users to install, see and use your Java programs just like regular Windows native executables.
I didn't even read the help file, and it took me less than 2 mins to create my first MSI from this tool. Super utilitiy!!! That's why I just thought of spreading the word. And yes... just as FYI, I am not a marketing guy and I leave the choice of using this tool completely to you!
By the way, if you would like to see the MSI in action, check this post on Windows Live Writer Plugin for Smileys or download the tool directly.
Until next time
