What you're running into may require some further debugging. It looks like $TopLink doesn't seem to be set properly for you at this point in the script. If you do run through the script, what is $TopLink set to just before this is called, and what do you expect it to be at that time?

sorry I'm really new to PS and currently getting this error

You cannot call a method on a null-valued expression.
