Hello everyone, this is Clark Nicholson from the Remote Desktop Virtualization Team. I’m writing today to let you know that we have just published the Desktop Hosting Reference Architecture Guide and the Windows Azure Desktop Hosting Reference Architecture Guide. These documents provide a blueprint for creating secure, scalable, multi-tenant desktop hosting solutions using Windows Server 2012 and System Center 2012 SP1 Virtual Machine Manager or using Windows Azure Infrastructure Services.

We know from customer research that hosted Windows desktops and applications are very desirable cloud services. This is particularly true for small and medium-sized organizations who are trying to expand their businesses while holding down IT costs. However, many organizations have concerns about security, which is inhibiting their adoption of cloud-based services. We have addressed these and other requirements in the Desktop Hosting Reference Architecture Guide and the Windows Azure Desktop Hosting Reference Architecture Guide by using the latest virtualization technologies.

For more information, please see Remote Desktop Services, System Center Technical Resources and Windows Azure Infrastructure Services.

  • Hi, I built a Remote Desktop Services session host/published desktop deployment on Server 2012 for some admin staff, then built a second one to deploy RemoteApps from. I can configure the default RemoteApp connection URL for other staff who have standard PCs and it works fine, but it seems as though being able to deploy RemoteApps into a hosted desktop is deliberately blocked, I get this message in the RemoteApp and Desktop Connections event log:

The installation of the default connection has been cancelled. A default connection cannot be used on a system that is part of a Remote Desktop Services deployment.

Any idea why this decision was made for a hosted desktop when it works fine on PCs?
