Personally, I’ve always believed that “It’s the data, stupid!” when it comes to enterprise application development. I’m gratified to see that enterprises are figuring this out! It’s unfortunate that salaries seem to be slumping in all but three IT areas...

Until today, all of the various SQL Server community and samples projects each had their own discussion board on CodePlex. In the interests of simplification that our customers have asked for in our samples experience, we’re consolidating all of those...

Would somebody please turn on the Large Hadron Collider so we can just end the debate? One way or another? Srsly? It might solve some other problems, too. *snicker* In short, a new paper says that the reports of the probable demise of black holes created...

One of my alleged New Year’s resolutions was to clean out the blogging back log. I have a bad habit of highlighting something on a web page, whacking the Live Toolbar button for “blog this” and letting my witty repartee rot in a folder somewhere in Documents...

A SQL Ranger friend of mine in the UK gave me the heads up to this yesterday. (Thanks, Ben!!) Apparently, back in December 2008, Sybase ported some of our samples to SQL Anywhere. Needless to say, I’ve got mixed feelings about Sybase porting AdventureWorks...

Leave it to Valve to find the sunny side of piracy. "We take all of our games day-and-date to Russia," Holtman said. "The reason people pirated things in Russia is because Russians are reading magazines and watching television. They say...

Earlier this week, the gravitational pull of Twitter got the better of me. Jimmy May emailed me that Paul Nielsen was trying to sort out the gender of the fictitious IT Manager of AdventureWorks (Jean Trenary) for the next edition of the SQL Server Bible...

I’m not going to say that the fact I broke down and joined Twitter in a moment of weakness today made me think of /dev/null... it’s probably just a coincidence. Meh. A new tagging system? I wonder how much visual appeal had to the need for this instead...

If there’s not already a medal for stating the obvious, I should start a foundation to present one. Why should the Darwin Awards have all the fun? There is "something new and interesting going on in the universe," said Alan Kogut of NASA's Goddard...

Davide describes it best in his own words: What is DTLoggedExec? If I were a full-time ETL developer or an operations DBA, this is definitely a tool I’d be using every day. Grab yours today from CodePlex: http://www.codeplex.com/DTLoggedExec/

When we moved from Redmond to Kirkland in December, it put me outside the “reasonable commute distance” for the Mongoose mountain bike... which may or may not have been all a part of my nefarious plan to “convince” Mrs. Reed to “permit” me to buy a motorcycle...
