Boost your Productivity with Visual Studio® 2005 and the .NET Framework 2.0

APRIL – JUNE EVENTS

With the productivity enhancements in Visual Studio 2005 and the .NET Framework 2.0, you'll spend less time coding and more time focusing on actually getting the job done. First, learn how to build customizable web user interfaces in no time flat with the ASP.NET 2.0 Web Parts framework. Next, see how the many new language features of Visual Basic® 2005 and C# 2005 can simplify your coding. Finally, stand on the shoulders of giants by incorporating Application Blocks from the Enterprise Library for .NET Framework 2.0 into your application. Your project will be finished and you'll be on to your Xbox 360™ before you know it! These don't-miss events are always free, local and live.

Session 1: Make it Personal – Creating Customizable User Interfaces with Web Parts and ASP.NET 2.0

Some of today's most sophisticated Web sites provide portal pages that enable users to select and customize sections of content on the page. Now, you can easily add a dynamic, modular, customizable portal interface to your own ASP.NET 2.0 Web site using the new Web Parts framework. Discover how the Web Parts architecture is implemented as a set of controls that contain, catalog, edit and connect the Web parts. You'll also learn how to persist user customizations, such as changing the page layout or the Web Part properties via the provider-based personalization service. Finally, we'll show you how to create your own custom ASP.NET 2.0 Web Part and export it for re-use in the forthcoming version of Windows SharePoint® Portal Server.

This session will cover:

·                Web Parts architecture and controls that contain, catalog, edit and connect

·                How to persist user customizations such as personalized page layouts

·                How to create a custom ASP.NET 2.0 Web Part

Session 2: Make it Simple – Language Enhancements in the .NET Framework 2.0

The .NET Framework 2.0 offers powerful language enhancements that will increase your productivity and simplify your coding. This session highlights key language enhancements that are common to both C# and Visual Basic, plus enhancements that are unique to each. You'll discover how Generics provide a compelling and safer alternative to untyped collections. You'll also see how using partial classes makes it easier to manage your source code. Next, we'll explore the benefits of using anonymous methods and iterators in C#. Finally, we'll turn our attention to Visual Basic by exploring several new keywords and statements before diving into the hot new My namespace.

In this session, you'll learn about:

·                Key language enhancements in both C# and Visual Basic

·                How Generics provide a safer alternative to untyped classes

·                Using partial classes to manage your source code

·                New keywords and statements in Visual Basic and My namespace

Session 3: Make it Powerful – Exploring the Enterprise Library for the .NET Framework 2.0

Want to kick start your next .NET 2.0 project? It's time to take advantage of the free and reusable Application Blocks that come with the powerful Enterprise Library for .NET Framework 2.0. In this session, we'll examine the design and usage of several Application Blocks that will streamline and simplify your coding. You'll learn how the Application Blocks' architecture embodies Microsoft's best practices and recommendations for .NET-based applications. We'll also show you how to extend the Application Blocks for use in new scenarios.

This session will demonstrate:

·                How data access application blocks can streamline your coding

·                Microsoft's best practices for .NET-based applications

·                How to use and extend the Application Blocks in new scenarios
