Yes, the client tier can be installed on Windows XP Professional. It's only the data and application tiers that need to be on Windows Server 2003.

This release requires SQL Server 2005 Beta 2. The appropriate release of Visual Studio will ship as part of the download for this CTP.

Does the client need to use the most up to date CTP version or can we install that only on the TS Server?

Yes, you need to use the version of Visual Studio Team Suite that's included in the DVD image. It's a matched set.

The Dec CTP only supports installing the application and database tiers on separate computers.

Updated Step 2 of How to: Install Team Foundation Client Tier Visual Studio 2005. You'll find the setup file under the \vs folder, not the non-existent \vsts folder.
