I've had a few people send me e-mail asking, "What is the password for ADVENTUREWORKS.LOCAL\darren?"

His password is Pass@word1 and it was provided on the VPC download page. For those who obtained the VPC at Microsoft from an itnernal share, I don't think this information was provided.

The password is in the readme file. The problem is it assumes you have a US keyboard. Most European keyboards have the @ symbol in a completely different place so if they type in the above password they'll just keep being told the password is invalid.

Replace the @ symbol with whatever is above the "2" button (when you press SHIFT) and you can log in. Eg in the UK I could only login by replacing the @ in the password with " (double-quote character).

For those who are not in the US, you need to make sure you press the key for the @ symbol (second key to the right of the L on UK keyboards).

This had me stumped for many minutes!
