In the US they have launched the new design for the /windows web site at http://www.microsoft.com/windows
It was designed with the principles of being Light, Clean and Fast. In my opinion it hit those three criteria, but what do you think?
We will be working over the coming months to get /uk/windows into the new design
After seeing that Eric gained 17Mb of hard disk space, I decided to see how much disk space I could recover using the Disk clean up utility.
After a quick scan I was able to save 3.20 Mb of disk space :)
if you are interested in running this utility follow the steps outlined at this Windows Help and How-to article:
http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Windows/en-GB/Help/353188f4-dfd4-4d13-b204-de4cec9e4a5a1033.mspx
Let me know how much disk space you gained.
Over the weekend there where 4 more Windows Vista Language Interface Packs (LIP) launched:
***Please note that all 4 LIPs can only be installed on a system that runs an English version of Windows Vista.
Also the last 3 require a font-enabling package must be installed prior to installing the Vista LIP package. This font package contains important font update information that is required to view your language correctly. To install the font package, click here: Install font package ***
So it looks like http://mobile.microsoft.com is now also showing the new updated styling of the Windows homepage and also some nice new content.
The little video to download is pretty cool and is worth watching, you might start to see some themes coming through with all the other demos going live at the minute. It is optimised for a mobile device (Windows Mobile Phones, iPhones and other phones…)
There are also some US only Phone and PC offers if you are interested… as well as the latest Live Search download.
Of all the 2300+ articles and demos on the Windows Help and How-to site there are 12 that have been given a 100% positive rating*, fro the Was it helpful? at the bottom of every page
* of course a number of caveats to this number
Yesterday I posted about the 2 new Windows Vista LIPs (Malay and Assamese) that became available over the weekend.
Well last night 2 Indian language LIPs where launched:
1. Oriya - download
“Oriya is one of the official languages of India. About 90 percent of the speakers live in the state Orissa in the East of India, but there are also sizable communities in the neighboring states of West Bengal and Jharkand and, due to labor migration, also in Gujarat”
2. Bengali - download
“Bengali is spoken in the region of eastern South Asia known as Bengal, comprising Bangladesh (where it is spoken by about 110 million people) and the Indian state of West Bengal (where it is spoken by 55 million people). With more than 200 million speakers it is the second most widely spoken language on the Indian subcontinent and among the 5 languages with the most native speakers worldwide. Bengali is official language of Bangladesh, one of India’s 23 official languages and the official language of the Indian states of West Bengal and Tripura."
****Please note that above LIPs can only be installed on systems that run an English version of Windows Vista. ****

No this isn’t a Dr Evil Mini Me post but rather a quick bit of fun to spice up your Windows Live Messenger… Over at http://www.minimise-me.com you can create your own character and download in into your messenger.
Not sure about the one I created, I don’t have a hat like that, and it is a little bit Pete Doherty esque (or maybe the Artful Dodger) but it could suit :)
I should have probably chosen the racing driver helmet as more appropriate considering my past time...
Pick one of the celebrity characters if making your own is just too much effort.
I had this passed onto me by my colleague and WMC guru Abid :)
“That's why I'm pleased to share with all of you that we've signed a deal with the Windows Media Center team at Microsoft to own and manage the TGB web site, which will help take our community to the next level.”
The Green Button - Exciting Announcement: The Green Button and Microsoft!
