How to restore a hidden Internet Explorer Favorites folder

    Posted over 3 years ago

So this is for William who emailed me with this question.  He had made an IE Favorite folder hidden and couldn’t find a way to get it back.

As this folder is just like any other folder it is quite simple to fix, but the key is to know where your favorites are stored.

    1. First go to Windows Explorer and navigate to the folder where your favourites are.  This is typically c:\users\<user name>\favorites Internet Explorer Favorites Folder
    2. Now select the Organize menu and choose ‘Folder and search options’ Folder and search options
    3. Click the view tab, and make sure you select ‘show hidden files, folders’  and press Apply Show Hidden files
    4. Restart Internet Explorer and your hidden folder should now appear.

Thanks to Ian who supplied me the answer

Maybe the sign writers need to go back to school

    Rather embarrassing…

Newly paved road leading to Southern Guilford High School

BBC News - US school road marking spelled wrongly

“Workers have misspelled the word school on a road approaching a high school in North Carolina in the US.

Crews painted "shcool" on the approach road to Southern Guilford High School.

The road had been recently repaved and crews were working to mark out the school zones.

The company that was responsible said it had "made a mistake" and it would be fixed…”

How the internet is changing language

Really interesting read from the BBC BBC News - How the internet is changing language

"Language itself changes slowly but the internet has speeded up the process of those changes so you notice them more quickly."

People using word play to form groups and impress their peers is a fairly traditional activity, he added.

    ..

Online you show how brilliant you are by manipulating the language of the internet."

    and this from the Ukraine

“The Mac and Linux communities even have their own word for people who prefer Microsoft Windows - віндузятники (vinduzyatnyky literally means "Windowers" but the "nyky" ending makes it derogatory).”

    What is Microsoft Security Essentials?

    Posted over 3 years ago
    by Rob Margel

“Microsoft Security Essentials is a free antivirus program for your personal computer, and provides real-time protection against viruses, spyware and other malicious software.

The program runs in the background while you're using your PC and checks daily for any updates from the Internet. It performs scheduled scans of your computer for any malware, automatically blocking most threats. Basically, if your Microsoft Security Essentials icon is displayed as green in the notification area, at the far right of the taskbar, your computer is in good condition. If the program detects a problem or threat, it displays a message with the detected item, the alert level, and the recommended action, so you can decide how to proceed. You can also use Microsoft Security Essentials to perform a manual scan of a file, a folder, or your entire PC, at any time. ”

Read more about it, including system requirements and how to install at What is Microsoft Security Essentials?

For more information, go to the Microsoft Security Essentials website
