This post is inspired by a comment in an old blog post about IE9 beta where a poster had said that in IE8 they had disabled the search from address bar feature and after installing IE9 they couldn’t work out how to turn it back on.  So this is an easy simple way to do that within IE9.

1. open internet options open IE9 internet options
2. in the general tab choose the Settings button in the Search  section. choose searchsetting sin IE9
3 . Select Search Providers ( i think this is by default) and then choose the option near the bottom  Search in the address bar  to toggle this feature on and off. search in the address bar in IE9 toggle on and off

So hopefully that helps.

Rob

Hi Thilo - do you mean you cannot change it back?

alternativly you can still 'add bars' and add ons for search engines

I have predefined search providers for my users.

How can I use this search providers in IE9 if I 've unchecked "Search in Address bar"?

I want my users by default not search in address bar.
