Why doesn't Adobe Flash work in Internet Explorer?

    Posted over 2 years ago

Why doesn't Adobe Flash work in Internet Explorer?

“The Adobe Flash add-on might not work in Windows Internet Explorer if you're using the 64-bit edition of Internet Explorer or have disabled the add-on. ActiveX Filtering in Internet Explorer 9 can also prevent the add-on from working.

Here are some things to try:

    • Use the 32-bit edition of Internet Explorer. If you have installed either Internet Explorer 8 or Internet Explorer 9, both a 32-bit and a 64-bit edition of the browser are available on your computer.

To see which edition of Internet Explorer you're using

      1. Open Internet Explorer, and then do one of the following:

        • In Internet Explorer 8, click the Help menu, and then click About Internet Explorer.

        • In Internet Explorer 9, click the Tools button Picture of the Tools button, and then click About Internet Explorer.

      2. If you're using the 64-bit edition of Internet Explorer, 64-bit Edition will appear to the right of the version number. If you're using the 32-bit edition, nothing will appear to the right of the version number.

To use the 32-bit edition of Internet Explorer

      • Click the Start button Picture of the Start button, click All Programs, and then click Internet Explorer.

Don't click either Internet Explorer (64-bit) or Internet Explorer (No Add-ons).

      Tip

To ensure that you use only the 32-bit edition in the future, you can pin it to your taskbar. For more information, see Pin a program to the taskbar.

    • Enable the add-on in the Manage Add-on dialog box. For more information, see How to manage add-ons in Internet Explorer 9.

    • In Internet Explorer 9, turn off ActiveX Filtering. For more information, see How to use Tracking Protection and ActiveX Filtering.”

Internet Explorer 9 Notification bar: frequently asked questions

    Posted over 2 years ago

    Picture of the Notification Bar

“Notifications in Internet Explorer 9 allow for more fluid and faster browsing. Instead of dialog boxes popping up unexpectedly and getting in your way, all notification messages are consolidated in the Notification Bar, located at the bottom of the browser frame. Notifications won't interrupt your browsing by forcing you to act on them before you can continue. You can ignore them if you choose and act on them whenever you like. What's more, you'll find that the messages, error notifications, and warnings you see in the Notification Bar are more informative, easier to understand, and most importantly easier to act on.”

Read our IE9 notification bar FAQ – it covers the most asked questions about this feature such as

    • What is the Notification bar?
    • Can I ignore notifications?
    • Can I turn off the Notification bar?
    • Why does the Notification bar keep telling me to speed up browsing?
