Why don’t some websites and pages work correctly in IE9?

    Posted over 2 years ago
    by Rob Margel

Why don't some website features work in Internet Explorer 9?

“Some website features might not work correctly if you're using the Beta version of Windows Internet Explorer 9 or old versions of add-ons. For example, links to videos and games might not work or a webpage might not open at all.

If a website isn't working correctly, try one or both of the following:

    • If you're using Internet Explorer 9 Beta, download the most recent version of the browser from the Internet Explorer 9 download page. For more information about the version of Internet Explorer that you're using, see Find out which version of Internet Explorer you're using.

    • Download the most recent versions of your installed add-ons. For example, if you're trying to watch a video or play an online game, you might need to update Microsoft Silverlight, Adobe Flash, or Java. You might need to go to an add-on manufacturer's website to download an update. For more information about add-ons, see How to manage add-ons in Internet Explorer 9.

Why do some webpages look incorrect in Internet Explorer 9?

“Some websites might not display correctly in Windows Internet Explorer 9. For example, portions of a webpage might be missing, information in a table might be in the wrong locations, or colors and text might be incorrect. Some webpages might not display at all.”

If so you can try looking at

    1. Turning on compatibility mode
    2. Turn off Tracking Protection for a single website
    3. Turn off Hardware Acceleration

72 Windows Phone 7 tips and tricks–Pocket lint

OK so I have had my HTC Mozart WP7 for a few days now and am really enjoying finding out and using the new OS, and this article from Pocket Lint is a great place to start for tricks and tips for Windows Phone 7.

72 Windows Phone 7 tips and tricks

I particularly like and have found useful

    10. What are the dots? - Whenever you see three dots at the bottom of the screen, that's a menu for more options. In photo playback for example, it will give you the options to delete the image or perform a quick upload.

    32. Auto save your images to SkyDrive It's always a good to keep a backup of your pictures, and Windows Phone 7 comes with SkyDrive which lets you do just that. In steps the auto upload to SkyDrive option. If you got confused the first time it asked you when you went into the pictures area, don't panic, you can re-enable it via the Applications page hidden within Settings. Go to Settings, swipe to the left and then scroll down to Pictures & Camera. In there you'll find the option to set the Auto Upload feature on.

    48. Finding more symbols on the keyboard. The keyboard is fairly comprehensive and simple to use, but it can't display all the symbols you might want at the same time. If that's the case press the "more" arrow to the left of the screen to reveal more keyboard options. Incredibly useful if you email address uses _ (took me ages to find this)

thanks to @stevecla1 for the tip

So earlier today I successfully moved from the Windows 7 beta to the Windows 7 RC with only a few minor problems that where fixed either in Action Center or running Windows Update.

I then stumbled upon this great video from Stephen Rose about what’s new in the Windows 7 RC, which is a great video if you want to discover what has changed.

Previously we have had a great page for downloading the latest language Interface packs for Windows 7 and Windows Vista, well we now have one for 53 available languages for Windows XP as well for all those users still running it.

“You can download and install additional languages to view Windows XP menus, dialog boxes, and other user interface items in your preferred language. Additional languages will work only with a genuine copy of Windows.

Language Interface Packs (LIPs), which provide a translated version of the most widely used dialog boxes, menu items, and help content, can be installed over any edition of Windows XP. You can download Language Interface Packs from the Microsoft Download Center by using the links below. To install one, you will need to have the required parent language installed on your PC. “

So if you are an IT professional and looking to deploy Windows 7 then this latest download will come in handy.

Download details: Windows 7 Deployment Plan: IT Pro Work Template

“The Windows 7 Deployment Plan can be used as a broad checklist or as the overall reference document for each part of the deployment process. For each segment of the process, the Deployment Plan presents the steps as identified in the Microsoft Deployment Toolkit, a list of interim and final milestones, and pointers to some of the useful documentation pertinent to the tasks involved. The Deployment Plan also contains a sample checklist for each segment of the process that can be used as go/no-go approval points as the deployment plan is being developed.”
