If you  have tried installing Dynamics AX 2009, you may have noticed that the Business Intelligence components (Reporting & Analysis components) have issues installing with Windows Server 2008 and SQL Server 2008. (Axel Kühn posts about his experience here).

Does Dynamics AX 2009 support SQL Server 2008 and Windows Server 2008?

Yes, and this support will be delivered to you soon via an update. At that time you’ll be able to install and use all Dynamics AX 2009 components on Windows Server 2008 and SQL Server 2008.

What can you expect with this update?

• Performance: From the Reporting perspective, you should see some reporting performance improvements just by due to SSRS 2008 alone. I can’t say if you’ll see any performance improvements with the AX 2009 Analysis components that use SSAS 2008, because I don’t have any performance numbers available.
• Setup & Deployment: The steps for installing Dynamics AX 2009 are a little different when installing on Windows Server 2008 and SQL Server 2008. You should read the updated setup & deployment instruction carefully.
• There are other improvements to the Dynamics AX 2009 BI Components - I’ll blog about them closer to the time the update is released.
