DreamPie is an excellent interactive Python shell!
One of the great things about DreamPie is that you can use it with IronPython. In this post, I’ll show you step-by-step how to make this work.
First, I’ll assume you have already install IronPython.
Download DreamPie (I used DreamPie 1.1.1) and install it.
DreamPie will now appear in the Start Menu. Notice the two items under that menu item. A shortcut to DreamPie suing Python 2.7 was created during DreamPie setup because it detected that I had Python 2.7 installed. This is great, but I want to use DreamPie with IronPython and that clearly is not listed.
Of course, I’ll the most obvious thing to do is click Add Interpreter … but don’t just click on on it. Right-click on and select Run as adminsitrator.
At this point it will ask you to select a “Python interpreter executable”. Just navigate to where you installed IronPython (in my case it was “C:\Program Files (x86)\IronPython 2.6 for .NET 4.0”) and then select the ipy.exe file and then click Open.
You will then see a small message saying that the shortcut was created.
Now examine the start menu and you’ll see that you have a new entry under DreamPie
Clean on the DreamPie shortcut for IronPython and then the DreamPie shell will launch correctly.
And you can clearly see that it is using IronPython
