Day One...Done

Huge day today. We kicked off TechEd 2008 at SkyCity in Auckland this morning with a keynote featuring yours truly and Kevin Ackhurst (MD of Microsoft NZ). We then heard from our first surprise guest John Key - leader of the National party - on the topic of "What I will do to get New Zealanders connected to each other and the rest of the world", followed swiftly by IT & Communications minister David Cunliffe.

Both took the opportunity to present their vision for the future direction of technology in New Zealand's economy to a crowd with a vested interest in their ideas.

Next was Amit Mital, GM of Live Mesh,  who presented Microsoft's big picture Software + Services vision. See Rob O'Neill's report for summary of his talk.

Then it was into the serious business of deep dive techy sessions, hands on labs, too many cans of V, getting hands on gadgets in the marketplace and generally getting immersed in the event. The Girl Geek dinner surely featured the best groomed geeks ever to assemble in one place!

And don't forget to visit TechEdLive for interviews, session contents, photos and much more.

Phew - off to bed!
