Wellington-based cloud technology company GreenButton launched a new cloud service last week, named inCus. This service combines cloud computing and smart language recognition technology (licensed from Microsoft Research) to create a searchable index from spoken words in video footage. Imagine the applications for this in any organisation that needs to maintain and search video and audio material.
You can check out the underlying technology: Microsoft Research Audio Video Indexing Service ( or “MAVIS”). And of course the hosted service runs on Windows Azure (there is also a self-hosted offering).
GreenButton has been smart to see an opportunity to bring the parts together and make it accessible to everyone using the cloud. This is a great example of a Kiwi company reaching the world - in fact they chose to do their press release first in Silicon Valley given that they are looking to a global market.
