Troubleshooting Cross Platform Discovery and Agent Installation (part 1)

Troubleshooting discovery and agent installation can be challenging when it comes to the cross platform extensions, mainly because the UI isn't always intuitive or directly helpful in determining the root cause of an issue. You often have to use logs or debugging tools to follow what's going on behind the UI and at the same time know what is supposed to be going on, so that you can figure out where the process is breaking. This process is even more challenging when you're working with a custom Management...

This is part of a multi-part article (if you didn't gather that from the title). For easy reference, here are all the parts. Using sudo (instead of root) for running privileged tasks

Originally I was going to talk about how to use sudo for installing the cross platform agent. That turned out to be a bit tricky since the tasks in the MP are "Reserved" and required exporting, modifying, and re-importing the entire MP (and as it turned out, every MP up to the main Unix Library MP!). When it comes to things like diagnostics and remediations, the process is a little different and doesn't involve replacing the entire MP. Basically what you're going to do is use overrides...

Windows Server Site Highlights Mixed Environments

Microsoft's Windows Server team is highlighting heterogeneous environments in a site launched today at www.microsoft.com/mixed , This site highlights this blog and the System Center product line in showing customers how we support mixed environments. Microsoft sees that a large number of customers have mixed environments, and that customers are tired of having operations siloed by applications, operating systems or skill sets. IT managers are having to drive down costs continually by consolidating...
