Google's competitors have always ranked higher when you query for <search> or <search engine > related stuff.
If you try the following web queries, see what is listed first in the results page:
search/"search" --> msn [google comes 3rd]
web search --> yahoo [google comes 3rd]
search engine --> alta vista [google comes 2nd]
Naturally hitting I'm feeling lucky will take you to the page with the highest PR

Which means... according to Google, LIVE has the highest PR for www.live.com, which goes on to prove that Microsoft Windows Live search is better than Google (if I can infer that, or atleast if that is what they think???)
In the technology link above, they claim that the page rank cannot be manipulated and its based on the page quality and not based on the number of links to that page... So this ends up with two things...
1. Either the Page is indeed of the highest quality (which it is...)
2. There is a bug in the PageRank algorithm and that was used to the benefit by Microsoft developers ;)
you can pick anything you wish, but I'd prefer the first one
