HTML 5: Hot Stuff!

HTML 5: Hot Stuff!

HTML 5, Windows 7, Windows 2008 and future version of Windows Operating System, what is the future?  XAML, will it go away?  Should I crank down on HTML 5 and ignore Windows Presentation Foundation 4.0?  Should I buy Gold?

Ok, here my blather…

HTML 5, Windows 7, Windows 2008 and future version of Windows Operating System, what is the future?

Ok, looks like Google Chrome has gotten their vulnerabilities down to 70 vulnerabilities.  See: http://web.nvd.nist.gov/view/vuln/search-results?query=Chrome&search_type=last3months&cves=on

  • Internet Explorer has 23 Vulnerabilities
  • Firefox has 46
  • Safari (using the same search criteria) has 0

XAML, will it go away?

I don’t think so, there is a lot of development accomplished and to drop it would not be a good experience for the Microsoft development ecology.  On the other hand, my guess is that the complexity of XAML, for instance the hierarchical data control as well as other fun things will cause the audience to consider switching to working with HTML5 over time.

Should I crank down on HTML 5 and ignore Windows Presentation Foundation 4.0?

First off, I am cranking down on Windows Presentation 4.0 AND HTML 5.  What should you do?  If you like XAML and there is a lot to like to XAML, I would continue to use XAML.  If you are starting anew, then HTML 5 might be a better bet.

So wasn’t that helpful.  Definitely a “Mom” answer.  Sorry.  It’s up to you.

Should I buy Gold?

I am not buying Gold.  For one thing: Where do I store it?  Now what happens if the economies go bust, how do I spend it?  Are we carrying around little scales?  Am I going to have pockets filled with gold coins?  In that case are suspenders coming back for men?  Will women have to walk around with gold coins in their purses?  Seriously, gold is a metal that is used industrially and for jewelry.  I just bought a very nice watch that uses the WWV to set itself most days and as far as I can tell there isn’t any gold in it, unless the electronics use a little gold.

Finally…

But like XAML and HTML 5, you have to make decisions using your own matrix to determine the path you wish to take.

  • Glad you got it all wrong including gold. Gold is the only currency that can be spent if economies go bust. You need to read End the Fed by Ron Paul and get a clue.

As for XAML I expect that Silverlight will be the first class citizen and that what MS was showing was the half-assed version of stuff you can do in HTML. Not the other way around. But WPF? Dead duck.

The only thing that you got right is that it's up to you if you want to use XAML or HTML... the pluses and minuses are clear.

As for bragging that IE has only 23 vulnerabilities? Sad and very very pathetic of you.

  • Thanks for the comment James.  I am not sure if I agree that WPF is a dead duck, and I definitely agree that XAML will be a first class citizen

My point was this: If I have to make a choice on which to put my time into, I would put my time into HTML 5 right now.  It is a close decision, and one that I am having to make right now.

I think that HTML 5 is likely going to be a better bet for someone having to make a choice on what they have time to learn.

As to bragging about IE (all versions)? Was it pathetic?  Well, if you found the data to be so inadequate as to be laughable or contemptible, then you did find my statement of fact pathetic.

As to the purchase of Gold, I agree with you Ron Paul makes some excellent points, but the bottom line is this: If I buy gold, what do I do with it?  My concern is that gold is similar to the tulip mania situation.  On the other hand gold mines are running out of veins to tap, so maybe not.

Please keep up the critical eye and keep me on the beam.

Comments are always appreciated (at least the ones without links to advertisements or there are too many curse words).

  • Microsoft has chosen HTML5 and so should you.....

  • Tony, good point, but not sure if that is true.  XAML has a great deal of developer energy, even Kinect for the PC uses XAML.  It sounds like you have made a decision to use HTML5, why don't you share with everyone how you came up with that decision.  I think everyone would like it if you did so! :)

Keep in mind my request is presented respectfully.
