SML Specification co-author and Working Group member William Vambenepe of Hewlett Packard has published an article titled "SML Improves Management Automation" at this URL:

In this multipage article, the author defines how SML models with constraints (such as "required platform / infrastructure") could be used to define the desired state of applications and systems, and then deliver this configuration. Over time, configuration management automation is accomplished by modifying the models and including IT operations knowledge about the application and system.

A useful "how-it-works" reference graphic on SML for management automation is available at the end of the article.
