This week we had our Annual Worldwide Partner Conference.
This is where we get together with partners from around the world to both celebrate their successes and focus on what is coming in teh next year. I was looking at some of the figures which are quite amazing – over 10,000 partners attended this year, 23,000 more via Digital WPC, and we awarded 43 partners for their outstanding successes. These included Getronics (NL) BV from the Netherlands for Custom Development Solutions, Application Infrastructure Development Partner of the Year, Momentum Advanced Solutions from Toronto for Custom Development Solutions, Smart Client Development Partner of the Year and ITWorx from Egypt Custom Development Solutions, Web Development Partner of the Year. It is so great to see so many successes from companies betting on the Microsoft platform.
During Tuesday’s kickoff our COO Kevin Turner announced that the company will be jointly launching Windows Server 2008, Visual Studio 2008 and SQL Server 2008 in Los Angeles on February 27, 2008. As the most important enterprise launch in the company history, February 27 will kick off a “launch wave” of hundreds of events that Microsoft will host worldwide.
While we will be launching our products together in February, we are still aiming to release Visual Studio 2008 and .NET FX 3.5 by the end of this year based on your feedback so far. The launch provides us with the platform to not only celebrate the release of these three great new products, but work with you, our community, to ensure that together we can provide great solutions for your organizations now, and for the future. We will start the ball rolling with the release of VS2008 and .NET FX 3.5 beta 2 later this summer, and expect more exciting news, reviews, training and resources following this.

Somasegar, .NET 3.5 doesnt look nice. It would be nice to see it as 4.0 since lot's of new features are comming and pronouncing 3.5 is also not great.
Its strange that VS2005 bundles with .NET 2.0 and .NET 3.0 were like extensions esp for Vista features and yet you're naming the next big release as .NET 3.5 ? .NET 3.0 should've been named .NET 2.5 and 3.5 as 3.0.
Will this be part of the next PDC? If not, when will the next PDC be held?

Why don't you delay VS 2008 RTM until Feb. so you can make sure it has less bugs? Either way I'm waiting for SP1 before I upgrade. I was burned by lowered productivity due to bugs in VS2005 RTM, and even with SP1 it still has issues. This product was rushed out the door. TFS has also proven to be unreliable, and I use it daily. Please put more focus on quality and do not rush these products out packed with features we do not need.
We don't have concrete plans for when we will have the next PDC.

I'd very much appreciate if you'd share more detailed information on the struggles you've had with TFS (I'm the product unit manager for TFS).
I assure you we did not rush out TFS (in fact we held it for 3 months past the VS 2005 ship date precisely because it wasn't ready). I'm not aware of any significant reliability issues and would definitely want to understand the problems you've had.
SP1, on the other hand, is a different matter. The TFS SP1 was very problematic and I appologize profusely for it. I've written about it extensively on my blog http://blogs.msdn.com/bharry. I won't repeat all of the things that went wrong that lead to a bad experience for many customers installing it but rest assured we are aware of it and have been and continue to work hard to fix the problems of the past and prevent repeating them again. Among other things, we have changed the way we test the servicability of TFS by accelerating that work before the initial release of the product. We will be releasing public patches for TFS 2008 Beta 2 so that we can assure that we have the patching process working well before we ship the product.
